About Lacrosse at Exeter

The University of Exeter Lacrosse Club is one of the most vibrant and rapidly growing sports clubs on campus. Lacrosse at Exeter combines genuine competitive ambition in BUCS South West leagues with one of the best social cultures in university sport. The sport has grown significantly in British university sport since the 2000s, and Exeter's programme reflects this — drawing experienced players from the US, Canada, and the increasing number of UK schools that now offer the game, alongside students who take it up entirely from scratch at university. The club's social traditions, strong touring programme, and genuine inclusivity make it one of the most welcoming entry points into competitive university sport at Exeter.

Club History

EULACC (Exeter University Lacrosse Club) established its competitive structure through the 2010s during England Lacrosse's university development investment. The women's section grew particularly quickly as UK school lacrosse participation increased, and has had promotion-challenging seasons in BUCS Division 1 South West. The men's section competes in Division 1 and has been consistently competitive with strong North American student contributions. The club's touring programme — including visits to US lacrosse clubs — has developed the cultural connection between Exeter lacrosse and the sport's North American roots.

Joining the Lacrosse Club

One of the most beginner-friendly clubs at Exeter. Beginner sessions at the start of each year provide equipment (sticks, helmets for men's) and teach from fundamentals. The sport is genuinely learnable from scratch within one semester to a level where competitive participation in lower BUCS squads is realistic. Experienced players are immediately considered for 1st squad selection after an initial assessment session.

Training

Tuesday and Thursday evenings at Streatham Sports Park (grass pitches and 3G surface). Men's: stick skills, transition, defensive positioning. Women's: passing and catching technique, draw control, positioning. BUCS fixtures on Wednesday afternoons. Box lacrosse (indoor) sessions in winter months are available to all members regardless of outdoor squad status.

BUCS Competition

BUCS Lacrosse South West Conference — men's and women's teams in Division 1 and Division 2. Wednesday afternoon fixtures October through April. Top division teams advance to BUCS Lacrosse Playoff stages. Box lacrosse (BUCS Box format) provides additional indoor competition in winter. England Lacrosse affiliated domestic competitions supplement the BUCS programme.

Highlights & Alumni

Both men's and women's teams have had promotion-challenging seasons in BUCS South West Division 1. The women's programme growth reflects the national expansion of UK school lacrosse participation. The club's touring programme and social traditions are among the most active in Exeter university sport.

Tips for Prospective Members

Student Accommodation for Lacrosse Players

Pennsylvania Road and St James are most popular — the same pattern as most Streatham Sports Park-based clubs. Large houses in Pennsylvania Road suit the strong social culture of the lacrosse community, where squad members regularly share 5–7 bed properties. The North American student community in lacrosse sometimes draws members toward city centre areas in first year.
